Get Involved

There are many ways to get involved in helping to keep the “Park” in Clifton Park!

                Support these efforts:

§  Attend public programs sponsored by FCPOS—see our Calendar.

§  Contribute your energy, get educated, share your passions and use your talents on projects which hold your interest.

§  Invite a speaker from FCPOS to your neighborhood association, church group, or club.

§  Buy from our local farmers and support our local agriculture.

§  Attend a town sponsored Stewardship Walk and see first-hand the open spaces we share throughout the town.

§  Attend Town public meetings and speak up in favor of open space protection at Town Board, Planning Board, and Zoning Board meetings.

§  Write Letters to Town officials and to the newspaper express your views.

Volunteer:

o   Be a steward of the land in your neighborhood, document existing habitats, monitor streams in your area.

o   There are projects in the area to which you can participate such as:

§  Habitat for Honeybees through the Southern Adirondack Bee Association

§  Trout Unlimited Dwaas Kill study for trout

§  Girl Scout project to sow wildflower seeds at the Town Transfer Station

§  Install bluebird houses

§  Pick up a tree to plant at the Shenendehowa Science Fair held each April

§  NYS Dept of Environmental Conservation WAVE program to study stream water quality in the area.

                Contribute:

§  Be generous with donations.  There are lots of tasks to be accomplished from doing research to getting out publicity to attending town meetings and taking notes.  Most important tasks need time and money to complete.

 ·         The first grant $3000 from Rural New York to FCPOS in 1996 allowed us to create the first inventory of open space in the Town of Clifton Park.

§  FCPOS was fortunate to receive a legislative grant from retired NYS Assemblyman Bob Reilly in 2009.  That $5000 was used to complete our Green “C” study with Siena College.  The results of that study were shared with all relevant departments, boards, commissions and committees of the town and discs with the data collected were presented to the Town Board for the town’s use in its business purposes.

§  FCPOS has an established track record of making good and productive use of the money we receive.  Help us continue to be a proud and respected member of the public discussion supporting open space in our town.  All donations are now tax-deductible.
