Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ’s:

1.        Is FCPOS a part of the town of Clifton Park?  No.  FCPOS is not a part of any official town of Clifton Park entity.  We existed before the official town open space committee and existing independently now as a 501C3 non-profit corporation.

2.       What do you consider “open space” to be?  We generally define Open Space as an area of land and/or water that is owned or used for one or more of the following public purposes:  to protect undeveloped or natural areas; to protect farmlands or ranchlands; to preserve view-sheds, vistas, or ridgelines; to protect wildlife habitat or movement corridors; to provide for outdoor recreation, trails or access to public lands; to protect designated heritage sites; to preserve water quality; to protect rivers, creeks or lakes; to restore disturbed or degraded landscapes; and to create landscape buffers to maintain community identity and character.

3.       Why do you include agriculture when that is usually a private business?  While the many farms and agricultural businesses in our town are non-natural open spaces, they continue to provide valuable open space benefits such as habitat environments, water management, corridor protection, as well as outdoor recreation and visual and aesthetic benefits.

4.       Are monetary contributions to Friends tax deductible?  Yes, as a 501C3 non-profit corporation, any contributions made to the organization are fully tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.  Contributions can be made by mail or directly through the website under the “Get Involved” tab.
